The Society of the Four Arts’ summer newsletter heralds the organization’s recent efforts to make the campus more environmentally friendly.
The initiative, started by buildings and grounds
supervisor Ron Minnicks (at right), included changing light bulbs to the compact fluorescent variety, installing low-flow plumbing fixtures and fine-tuning the A/C system.
The result? A savings of $562 a month on the Rovensky Administration building’s electric bill.
Four Arts marketing director Katie Edwards calls the savings eye-opening. “Every little bit helps,” she says. But saving money wasn’t the main motivation, she says.
“It’s just kind of the culture here. We’re very aware of world we live in and want to do our part environmentally,” Edwards said. “The cost savings on top of it were an added benefit. But it’s just the right thing to do.”
Minnicks has long been known as the area’s No. 1 fan of Pittsburgh sports teams. Now, he’s also the “green guy” at one of Palm Beach’s most prestigious organizations.
